A membership platform to streamline softball news and rankings
Overview
Extra Inning Softball is a nationally recognized softball news and ranking source, which has thousands of subscribers. Users can expect to see multiple softball-related news stories posted daily, as well as rankings, event advertising, merch and more. This site utilizes Memberpress, Elementor, and WooCommerce.
This was one of my first projects that has evolved quite a bit since I started at Lumen. The first thing that it needed was a full re-design to give the site better structure and a more modern layout. This also allowed us to implement features that let us greatly increase the site’s flexibility. We created a way to add new rankings for multiple classes, and a way for users to submit player, coach, and team nominations.
Challenge
Extra Inning Softball, a nationally recognized softball news and ranking source with thousands of subscribers, required a comprehensive redesign to enhance user experience and streamline content management. The existing website lacked a modern layout and flexible features to accommodate the growing needs of the softball community. The challenge was to create a platform that could efficiently handle daily news stories, rankings, event advertisements, merchandise, and user submissions.
Approach
As the UI designer and front-end developer, I led the redesign of the website to provide better structure and a more modern layout. The new design simplified the main header menu, incorporating less critical items into a hamburger menu, and introduced a homepage with improved visual flow and hierarchy to guide users’ attention effectively. To increase the site’s flexibility, I implemented features that allowed for the addition of new rankings for multiple classes and enabled users to submit nominations for players, coaches, and teams. The site was built using MemberPress, Elementor, and WooCommerce to support membership management and e-commerce functionalities.
Outcome
The redesigned website successfully modernized Extra Inning Softball’s online presence, providing a user-friendly platform that supports the daily publication of news stories, rankings, and event advertisements. The new features, such as the ability to add rankings and accept user nominations, have enhanced the site’s interactivity and engagement with the softball community. Additionally, the integration of membership and e-commerce functionalities has streamlined operations and provided a seamless experience for subscribers and customers.
